Gallery setting

Just a quick question,
what are the recommended settings for gallery ie- image size etc?
do people keep them at default or do they change them?

Thumbs are up to you, but I would really keep med and large images around 800 to 600, maybe even smaller. It will pop out the page if viewed in the gallery if too big.
