Hi I currently have modphpbb3 installed which is running on PHPBB 1.0.6, however I would like to update it to PHPBB 1.0.7 PL1
Can i do this or is there a lot of files to modify?

Welcome.
Updating the forum version is actually separate so just follow the steps set out via phpBB. The auto update works great and shouldn't interfere with any mods, the update package is on their site but make sure you follow it and merge the files or you will lose all the mods on there.
